Camps Get Kids Outdoors to Learn in Nature’s Classroom at the Anne Springs Close Greenway

FORT MILL, S.C., January 3, 2017 — Children can choose from more than 50 summer camps – and register online – at the Anne Springs Close Greenway, where camps range from the popular “Adventure Seekers” outdoor day camp to a variety of sports and specialty camps that teach everything from photography to mountain biking to rocket science.

Camps are available for children ages 3 to 18, and families can choose half-day or full-day camps at the 2,100-acre Greenway in Fort Mill, a few minutes south of Charlotte. Overnight equestrian camp and boys’ wilderness camp will be offered at Springmaid Mountain, between Asheville and Boone in Spruce Pine, N.C.

“Summer camp teaches new skills and lets kids have fun away from the pressures of the school year and their daily routines,” said Camp Director Suzanne Belanger. “Whether they learn to ride horses or kayak or identify different plants and animals, these experiences spark children’s imagination and independence. Just being out here gives them an appreciation for the natural world around them.”

Adventure Seekers is the Greenway’s largest camp series and will grow in size again this year to accommodate more than 800 campers. Accredited by the American Camp Association, the camp runs weekly through June and July and focuses on outdoor activities. Campers fish and paddle the Greenway’s lakes, hike along its 40 miles of trails, and learn teamwork and confidence by participating in a ropes course, archery, GPS geocaching and basic survival skills training.

For indoor fun, camps at the Greenway’s recreation complex include arts, dance, music, nature exploration and mad science – highlights include golf, scuba, photography, improvisational comedy, tennis, Lego building, and clay- and metal-work camps taught by award-winning sculptor Bob Doster.

FLYERS Camp for rising first to fifth graders is a summer extension of the Greenway’s elementary afterschool program and offers a safe and stimulating alternative to child care while school is out.

The Greenway will host a Summer Camps Open House on Saturday, February 25th from 10am-2pm at the Greenway’s Adventure Center (835 Springfield Parkway). Come and get a taste of the fun that is in store for your child this summer. Greenway members receive a discount on summer camps.
