An event every 2 weeks that begins at 10:00 am on Monday, repeating until May 19, 2020

Program Update: FLYERS Afterschool, Afterschool on the Greenway, and all Preschool programming have been suspended in accordance with South Carolina school closures. We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share.

Join us on the Anne Springs Close Greenway every first and third Monday at 10am for our community preschool programs. Preschoolers will complete nature themed literature activities, crafts, hikes, and use their imaginations! This program is geared for children ages 2-5 years old and must have a parent or guardian present throughout the program. While we encourage every member of the family to attend these programs, please note that due to uneven terrain and roots and rocks, our trails are often unsuitable for strollers, so any young children will either need to walk by themselves or be carried.

Programs will last about an hour and are held rain or shine. This program is $2 per participating child, plus a $6 entry fee for non-members. All programs take place at the Nature Center at the Lake Haigler Entrance.
January 6: Snow
Brrr! It’s winter so let’s talk snow! Join us to make a snowflake and to find out where animals go when snow covers the ground.
January 20: Rocks
Rocks are found everywhere and each rock tells us a story. Join us for this special hike to compare the colors, sizes and shapes of rocks we find. Please bring an empty egg carton to make collecting and sorting our rocks easier.
February 3: Birds Midwinter Treat
Our feathered friends need a little help finding food during the cold winter months. Make a bird feeder ornament to take home to decorate your own trees. Please note for those with nut allergies, we will have a nut-free activity available.
February 17: Great Backyard Bird Count
Now in its 23rd year, the Great Backyard Bird Count is set to take place February 14-17. We will join others from all over the world as we head outdoors to count birds. Data collected during this popular citizen science event is used to track the health of bird populations.
March 2: Catch the Wind
Learn about kites and how to fly them!
March 16: Oh Deer!
As deer, children will explore the Greenway and decide whether or not it is a good place for them to live. We will look for and discuss the four parts of habitat: food, water, shelter and space.
April 6: Show Me the Energy
We will discover how the food most animals and people eat comes from plants and that the sun is the ultimate source of energy needed for all organisms to stay alive and grow.
April 20: Less is More
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we will explore how using less is a good way of sharing resources.
May 4: Buttercups and Bluebells
Things are blooming at the Greenway. Let’s check out the colors and smells of this Spring’s wildflowers!
May 18: Creek Walk
Join us to explore Steele Creek and the critters that live on, in and below the water. Be prepared to get wet! Wear old shoes, (no flip flops please) and you may want to bring a towel to dry off with when we are done!
