Saturday 1/16 – 10 am Blue Blaze Hiking Club (through Blue Blaze Brewing) is hosting a hike at Bakers Mountain Park in Hickory, NC. (6680 Bakers Mountain Road, Hickory, NC). Look for the Blue Blaze Banner in the parking lot. The hike will be a combination of trails in the park and should come out to about 4 miles. Highlights include a waterfall, old homestead, and the highest peak in Catawba County, at 1780 feet. This trail is rated as moderate with some elevation change and is on natural surface.
Thursday 1/21 – 6 pm, Night Hike. Meet at the Gateway for a 2 mile hike. Bring a flashlight. Canteen will be open until 8 pm for hot chocolate, coffee, soda, beer, wine and delicious food.
Saturday 1/23 – 9:30 am. Meet at the Blue Star entrance (behind the Complex). Approx 5 miles.
Sunday 1/24 – 11 am, Mason’s Bend Trail. Meet at the Founders Trailhead Parking (end of Weir Court in Mason’s Bend). From Sutton Rd, turn onto Masons Bend Dr at the round about, make a left at the stop sign onto Crawfish Dr, then make a left onto Weir Ct. Winding, natural surface trail along the Catawba River. Rated easy, approx. 4 miles.
Tuesday 1/26 – 3:30 pm. Meet at the Greenway Stables parking lot (Horse Rd). Approx 2.5-3 miles.
Saturday 1/30 – Congaree National Park (100 National Park Road, Hopkins, SC 29061). Meet at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center at 9:30 am. It takes approx. 1 ½ hours to get to the park from Fort Mill. The majority of the park lies within a floodplain and the terrain is generally very flat with only slight elevation changes. The hiking is rated easy. Based upon trail conditions (flooding), there are options to hike varying trail lengths. We’d like to hike the River Trail which leads to the Congaree River, approx. 10 miles. There are other 3, 5, and 7 mile looping options.
Sunday 1/31 – 11 am. Meet at the Dairy Barn parking lot. Approx 3 miles.
