Greenway Speaker Series: Going Green in the Home

Please join us as we welcome Leslie Hatchell and Alysen Woodruff, Recycling Coordinators & Educators for York County Solid Waste & Recycling. Have you been wanting to “go green,” but aren’t sure where to start? If so, this talk is for you! This month’s speakers will be discussing waste reduction, recycling, food waste and the ins and outs of composting at home, with or without a bin.

Complimentary refreshments will be provided at 10am and the presentation with begin at 10:30am. All attendees will meet at the Adventure Center. 

This family-friendly event is free to all and thanks to a partnership with Nation Ford High School, entry fees will be waived for non-members, as well.

In addition to this informational session, York County Solid Waste & Recycling will be offering guests the opportunity to pick up their own pre-ordered compost bin from the County at this meeting. Leslie Hatchell, a Winthrop alumna, has held her current position with York County since 1995. Before that she was County Extension Agent with Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service for 6 years.

Alysen Woodruff has been Clean Community Coordinator/Keep York County Beautiful Executive Director since January 2011. Prior to this, she was Recycling Coordinator for the City of Greenville for 8 years and received her bachelor’s from Clemson University.

Both women are SCDHEC Certified Recycling Professionals and have won SCDHEC Recycling Professional of the Year and Carolina Recycling Association Recycler of the Year in addition to a plethora of other awards for litter control and cleanup initiatives.
