South Carolina Master Naturalists Advanced Training: Herpetology with Dr. Steve Fields

Herpetology is the collective study of amphibians and reptiles. With up to 70 species known in upstate South Carolina, the regional diversity is quite impressive. In this workshop, we take a close look at that diversity, as well as the characteristics, taxonomy, and various techniques for surveying herps in the field through pitfalls and cover boards. We will also separate the fact from the fiction regarding our resident toads, frogs, salamanders, as well as turtles, lizards, and, of course, snakes. This class is a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Hiking will be on uneven terrain to observe the research field.

Cost: $65, includes 6 hours of training and Amphibians and Reptiles of the Carolinas and Virginia field guide.
