Anne Springs Close Greenway kicks off its spectacular Earth Day Celebration weekend with a Greenway Speaker Series event featuring Blair Braverman, dogsledder and author.
Blair and her dogs have competed in some of the world’s toughest races, including the Iditarod and the Kobuk 440. She is the author of Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube, Dogs on the Trail, and Small Game (forthcoming fall 2022), as well as a contributing editor to Outside magazine and a contributor to The New York Times and This American Life.
She and her husband, Quince Mountain, make up the human portion of BraverMountain Mushing; their team has been featured on The Today Show, on National Public Radio, and in O: The Oprah Magazine, Washington Post, and Vogue. She lives in northern Wisconsin.
During the Greenway Speaker Series event, Blair will share “Tales from the Dogsled Trail.”
What can sled dogs, and dogs in general, teach us about finding adventure in the everyday? Blair, who has mushed thousands of miles through the frozen wilderness with her team of huskies, will be sharing riveting stories from the trail- as well as lessons for how seeing the world through dogs’ eyes can deepen our own relationships to nature.
Participants need to bring a chair or blanket. The Gateway Canteen will be serving a full menu. Copies of Blair's book will be available for purchase inside the Greenway Gateway beginning in March (while supplies last) to give attendees time to read prior to the event.
