Don't Skip the Stone: Millstone Trail Races
The Mill Stone 50K returns in 2027 with a new name and expanded race options as the Millstone Trail Races. The beloved 50K isn’t going anywhere—but it’s getting a fresh twist. Runners will now take on two 15.5-mile loops through the scenic Anne Springs Close Greenway, offering more opportunities to test grit, strategy and endurance.
Joining the lineup is a brand-new 25K distance, replacing the previous 10-mile race, along with a 10K and kids run—making the event accessible to a wider range of trail runners while staying true to its rugged roots. Additional details will be announced when registration opens later this year.
The course winds through a private nature reserve on primarily single-track, technical trails, with stretches of gravel and dirt road. Expect uneven footing, creek crossings (more if the weather allows), and likely plenty of mud. This is a true trail runner’s course—challenging, unpredictable and rewarding.
At the heart of it all is the Millstone itself—a historic landmark tucked deep within the Greenway. Once part of Webb’s Mill, the stone now stands as a quiet sentinel along the trail. For years, local runners have upheld a simple tradition: touch the stone as you pass.
What happens if you don’t? No one’s quite sure. But no one’s willing to find out.
With limited capacity, early registration is strongly encouraged.
