Rooted in Friendship, Grounded in Nature: A Greenway Love Story

For Elizabeth and Jesse Lanter, the Anne Springs Close Greenway is more than just a place to explore; it’s where their lifelong journey together began to bloom.

The Lanters’ story starts in the heart of Fort Mill. Elizabeth was just 11 when she first met Jesse in middle school, beginning a friendship that would carry them through the years. Though life took them in different directions—Jesse to the Marine Corps and Elizabeth to Clemson—fate and familiarity brought them back together after his tour in Iraq. What had been a steadfast friendship blossomed into something deeper, at just the right time.

In 2006, Elizabeth and Jesse chose to marry on the lawn of the Anne Springs Close Greenway, just steps from where the Comporium Amphitheater now stands. Surrounded by trees, sky and the peacefulness of a place they both felt connected to, it was a wedding rooted not only in love but in nature.

This May, Elizabeth and Jesse are celebrating 19 years of marriage. As long-time members and corporate partners through their family business, Superior Masonry Unlimited, the Greenway plays an active role in their love story and their daily lives.

“We’ve built a life—and a family—deeply rooted in nature,” Elizabeth shared. “We love hiking, camping and soaking in all the Greenway has to offer. Fort Mill is where we grew up, fell in love and planted our roots. We’re so grateful for this community and the special role the Greenway continues to play in our story.”

From middle school friends to lifelong partners, Elizabeth and Jesse’s journey is a testament to what can grow when we nurture the things that matter—friendship, family and the natural spaces that hold our memories.
