Introducing the New Chef of the Greenway Canteen: Michael Atchley
Michael Atchley joined the Greenway Canteen as Executive Chef at the end of 2024, following Chef John Anderson’s promotion to Food & Beverage Director.
Born and raised in Anaheim, California, in the “shadow of the Matterhorn,” Michael’s culinary journey began early. Spending his childhood in his grandparents’ country store in Oregon, he learned the fundamentals of food service by working the deli slicer and frying chicken at just eight years old.
Though he began his career in IT purchasing, he soon followed his love of food, learning the craft hands-on and rising through the culinary ranks in some of the industry’s most esteemed kitchens. A significant portion of his career was spent with the Walt Disney Company, where he honed his craft at iconic venues including the Animal Kingdom Lodges, the Tusker House at Animal Kingdom Park, the German Pavilion at EPCOT and the main commissary kitchen serving the Magic Kingdom.
Michael has also worked with leading hospitality groups such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG, the Kessler Collection and Melia. In Charlotte, he served as the Executive Banquet Chef for the Club at Longview and later as the Executive Chef at the Palisades Country Club.
Upon stepping onto the Anne Springs Close Greenway for the first time, Michael felt an immediate connection, describing it as a “Zen moment.” As Executive Chef of the Greenway Canteen, Michael plans to embrace a thoughtful approach to change, preferring to observe and understand the unique culture and mission of the Greenway before making adjustments.
Through his leadership, Michael combines decades of culinary expertise with a deep passion for creating food that supports the Greenway’s mission, enhances guest experiences and connects the community through shared meals. Please join us in welcoming Michael to the team!
