Anne Springs Close Greenway Hosts Third Annual Blue Star Blitz
FORT MILL, S.C., March 15, 2019 — Kicking off the spring season and the start of the third annual “April is Love the Greenway Month,” the Anne Springs Close Greenway will host the Blue Star Blitz on Saturday, March 30th, an outdoor recreation festival featuring 5k and 10k trail races, short track mountain bike racing, hiking challenge and a kids’ scavenger hunt. Race participants and community spectators alike are encouraged to enjoy live music through the afternoon, as well as the Blitz Craft Beer Tasting starting at 12:00pm.
Races are scheduled throughout the day beginning with junior boys and girls short track races, followed by the 10k and 5k trail races and additional bike racing in the afternoon. Live music featuring Chunky Daddy will play all day beginning at 11am and will accompany Blitz Craft Beer Tasting attendees as they experience pours from 5 local breweries.
The Blue Star Blitz begins a month-long initiative to celebrate “April is Love the Greenway Month,” which intends to spread greater awareness about the Anne Springs Close Greenway and garner greater support from its members and donors. The annual community campaign sets out to raise awareness for the 2,100 acres that comprise the Greenway and encourage community engagement.
“The Greenway is an incredible regional asset and as the demand for outdoor recreation increases, we are working to build programs that continue to meet our users’ lifestyle goals,” says John Gordon, Executive Director of the Greenway. “We want to encourage people at all levels of fitness to get outside and appreciate nature, a habit that has far-reaching benefits both emotionally and physiologically.”
