Anne Springs Close Greenway Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

FORT MILL, S.C., November 17, 2017– The Anne Springs Close Greenway has joined the sixth annual #GivingTuesday movement, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide. In 2016, millions of people across 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $177 million was raised online to benefit a broad range of charitable organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness. Kicking off the holiday giving season, #GivingTuesday is held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (11/28), as well as the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

This #GivingTuesday, the Anne Springs Close Greenway has set a goal to raise $5,000, which will cover the annual cost to care for one mile of its 40-mile trail system. On average, the Greenway spends $1 per foot of trail each year to support its growing trail offerings, used annually by more than 256,000 visitors. In addition to online donations, the Greenway has partnered with Hobo’s and Full Spectrum Brewing Co. to host a #GivingTuesday celebration on November 28, a Cocktails for Trails happy hour from 5:30 to 8:00pm, with proceeds going toward the Greenway’s $5,000 goal. For a tax-deductible donation of $20, guests can enjoy Hobo’s appetizers, drinks, and live music from the Oneppo Brothers. A generous Greenway donor has offered a challenge gift of $5,000 and will match each dollar raised toward the fundraising effort.

“We are grateful for our members and users, and as a non-profit we rely on the generosity of our Friends of the Greenway and other donors to help bridge the gap in dollars needed to help preserve 2,100 acres and support our incredible 40+ miles of trails,” said Denise Cubbedge, Director of Development. “#GivingTuesday allows us to be a part of a global celebration of generosity, while supporting something that has an increasingly special value to this community and is so close to home.”

To take part in the Anne Springs Close Greenway’s #GivingTuesday initiative, you can make your gift by texting GIVEGW to 414-44. Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance or at the door.

About #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
