Competitive Race Series Launches at the Anne Springs Close Greenway

FORT MILL, S.C., June 29, 2018 -  Fort Mill’s favorite nature preserve, the Anne Springs Close Greenway, continues its tradition of competitive races with the newly launched Greenway Race Series, gearing up to host the Treeshaker Mountain Bike Challenge on September 1st and the Springmaid Trail Race later in October. Competitors of all ages and ability levels are invited to come and explore the Greenway’s 40 miles of trails by participating in either or both of these races in the fall.

The Treeshaker Mountain Bike Challenge is an endurance race comprised of individuals or teams challenged to ride as many laps as they can in either three or six hours for their chance to win prizes and medals. The race will start at the Greenway’s Field Trail Barn at 9a.m. and will provide riders with a unique opportunity to race on trails not typically designated for mountain biking.  On Aug. 31, the course will be open to all who would like to practice for race day.  Registration cost varies depending on race category. The Springmaid Trail Race has more than 35 years of tradition in Fort Mill and will be held again on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 9a.m, this time bringing back the half marathon competition. There will be a race for everyone, whether they want to run the 5K dog jog with their furry friend, take on the 10K trail race, or try their hand at the new half marathon course. There will be music, food trucks and cider on site for those who prefer to spectate. All proceeds will benefit the Mary Warner Mack Dog Park, which will host an open house during race festivities. “We are excited to offer our community more recreational fitness opportunities, and the TreeShaker MTB Challenge and Springmaid Trail Race are just the beginning of what’s to come for the Greenway Race Series,” said Sara Lee, Outdoor Recreation Director for the Anne Springs Close Greenway. “We are looking forward to adding more races to the series in 2019 and diversifying our outdoor recreation opportunities even further.”

Both races will meet at the Greenway’s Adventure Road Entrance (104 Adventure Road). Unless there is severe weather, these events will run rain or shine. To learn more about the Greenway Race Series, please visit our website.
