The Recreation Complex swim teams, the Sharks and Dolphins, are competitive age-group teams, but also fun groups. Workouts include endurance, speed, drill technique and a healthy dose of teamwork and sportsmanship.
The swim teams, Summer and Winter Leagues, offer practice times up to four times a week. Lead by Head Coach Harry Truesdale, the teams compete with area YMCA's, clubs and neighborhood pools.
Fort Mill Sharks Swim Team participates in the Greater Charlotte Swim League during the summer. Fort Mill Dolphin and Fort Mill Sharks Swim Team participate in the Hornet’s Nest Swim League during the winter.

Equipment Needed: One piece practice swim suit, towel, and a good pair of goggles. All swimmers will be required to wear a team swim suit (purchased separately) during meets. A swim suit measurement day is scheduled for November TBA.
Swim Meets: All Parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer at the meets. If you are a first year parent, latch on to some of our veteran parents; they carry a wealth of information. We will also need volunteer parents to help get swimmers ready for heats and timing events. Meets are held on Saturdays starting in January. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from meets, directions will be provided. Please try to car pool with another family if possible.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- What age does the participant have to be for this program? The program is designed for participants 5 - 18 years old. The birth date cut-off is January 1, 2018.
- How well does my child have to swim? It depends on the age of the swimmer. Participants (10 & under) must use some form of freestyle and backstroke the whole length (25 yards) of the pool. Participants, ages 11-18, must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke. Additional stroke clinics are available beginning in October. There is an additional charge for stroke clinics.
- Why does it cost so much? Broken down, the cost of Winter Swim Team works out to approximately $58.00 per month of practices and meets. If we did not have volunteer parents to help with swim meets, it would cost well over $500 per person to participate.
